Tom Bradach – Session I

Becoming trauma-informed through systems change

Tom Bradach, Illinois Chapter American Academy of Pediatrics

Becoming trauma-informed requires a multi-pronged, interprofessional approach inclusive of public education and awareness, prevention and early identification, and effective trauma-specific assessment and treatment. To maximize the impact of a trauma-informed framework for the delivery of services, assessment and action need to be apprised in a community context. A trauma-informed approach is inclusive of trauma-specific interventions related to assessment, treatment, and recovery supports, and incorporates key trauma principles into the organizational culture. This workshop will enable participants to evaluate their own organizations using trauma-specific assessments and strategize ways to develop a trauma-informed organizational protocol, utilizing SAMHSA’s 6 Key Principles and 10 Implementation Domains.
